Am I legally required to have fire safety equipment in my home in Malaysia?

No. Unlike businesses, which must meet Fire Services Act requirements, individual homeowners in Malaysia are not legally mandated to own a fire extinguisher or smoke detector. Some strata-managed condos have their own building-level requirements set by the JMB, but that is separate from what a resident chooses to keep inside their own unit.

How much does it cost to properly fire-safety a Malaysian home?

Based on current pricing, a 3kg ABC dry powder extinguisher and a fire blanket each cost RM90, putting the core setup at roughly RM180 before adding a smoke detector. Bundle pricing is typically cheaper than buying each item separately.

What is the difference between a 1kg and a 3kg fire extinguisher for home use?

Both are SIRIM-tested and Bomba-approved. The 1kg extinguisher is compact, around 29cm tall, and suits kitchens, apartments, or cars, rated to put out a 5A/21B fire in about 3 seconds. The 3kg extinguisher is rated against larger 13A:55B fires and suits landed homes, garages, or workshops where extra coverage matters more than portability.

How often should a home's fire safety setup be checked?

Twice a year is a reasonable minimum: test smoke detector batteries, check the fire extinguisher's pressure gauge, and confirm escape routes are not blocked.

What is the single most important fire safety item for a Malaysian home?

A smoke detector. It is the least expensive of the core tools and the only one that works while occupants are asleep, which matters because electrical fires — the leading cause of Malaysian house fires — often start hidden and give no warning without one.

Questions about the Kit Pro

Is the Kit Pro more than my home needs?

If your home is under 3,500 sqft with 4 rooms or fewer, the Kit Plus covers it for less. The Pro is for larger homes where one extinguisher per floor is not enough, because a fire in one room can spread before someone fetches it from another.

Can I set it up myself?

Yes. The 3kg extinguishers come with wall hooks. The smoke detectors run on a battery and mount on the ceiling, so no electrician is needed. The Flex-Mount straps to a car seat rail or boot panel. If you are unsure where something goes, WhatsApp us a photo of your floor plan and we will tell you.

Do the extinguishers need servicing every year?

Not for home use. Check the pressure gauge now and then and make sure the needle stays in the green band. Units used in a business need annual servicing to keep a BOMBA licence valid.

How long does everything last?

The extinguishers have a shelf life of about 12 years and can be refilled after use. The Smoke Detector PLUS has a 10-year battery and a test button. A fire blanket is for one use, so replace it after a fire.

When will it arrive?

We pack and ship within 3 business days from Petaling Jaya. Shipping is calculated at checkout. See our shipping and refund policy.

Can I swap items or change the quantities?

The kit price is for the set as shown. For a different mix, for example more smoke detectors and no car items, WhatsApp us and we will quote you.

Can I buy it in person?

Yes. Our headquarters at 1A, 10th Mile, Federal Highway, Petaling Jaya is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm.
